International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually on March 8 as a focal point in the women’s rights movement.  Bringing attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights,  violence and abuse against women.

Lets look at a  basic definition of each word as it is  critical to understand the difference between equity and equality.

Equality means ‘’each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities’’.

Equity means ‘’recognising that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome’’.
